I'm a virgin. Can I use a menstrual cup?

Yes you can. But please keep in mind that your hymen will probably tear.

01

Lots of questions? Bring them on!

02

How long can I keep the menstrual cup inside of me?

MeLuna brand cups can stay inside the body for 8-12 hours.

03

Is it smelly?

Menstrual liquid begins to develop an odor when it is exposed to air. As the menstrual cup is worn inside, there will be no period odor.

04

Sex and birth control?
  • No the menstrual cup CANNOT be used as a contraceptive.

  • No you cannot wear the menstrual cup during sex.

  • If you are using a copper IUD/hormonal IUS for contraception, yes you can still use MeLuna. If the string has not been cut short, be careful whenever you use MeLuna to prevent removing the IUD from your uterus. The string must not be stuck between the MeLuna and your vaginal wall. It should remain inside the MeLuna cup. If you want to use MeLuna and an IUD, shortening of the string is recommended.

05

Is it possible to have an allergic reaction against MeLuna?

No. The raw material of MeLuna, TPE, does not contain any proteins, PVC, latex or silicone. This material is also used for the production of baby bottle teats.

06

My MeLuna leaks. What can I do?

Are you using the right size? The largest diameter has to seal the vagina to prevent leaking. If the cup is too small, it will not sit tight enough. Does the cup defold inside the vagina? If not, your MeLuna is probably too large for you.

07

MeLuna seems very complicated to handle, will I be able to do it?

Yes, of course. Only patience and training are required. After one or two menstrual cycles you will have mastered the handling of MeLuna.

08

Help! I cannot remove the MeLuna!

Applying a menstrual cup is an unfamiliar process for many women. Some women may have difficulty removing the cup during the first few attempts. Our pelvic muscles can tense up during mental stress so it is important stay relaxed and take your time. Consider getting into a squatting position. Try to push the menstrual cup gently outward, using your pelvic floor muscles. If you make full use of your pelvic floor muscles, it will be quite simple. After several attempts, removing the cup will be as easy as inserting it.
